George H. W. Bush Also Appreciates Abe, Teddy, and Ike We were delighted to recently discover that we were not alone in appreciating the unique contributions of the SherWright spotlight Presidents - Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Dwight Eisenhower. These great leaders also inspired the father of our current President, George H. W. Bush. Here is what he had to say about them in a C-Span 12/22/91 interview when asked about how he had been influenced by other US Presidents: “I don't really think - I think I respected certain components one's presidency - Lincoln for his fairness, his determination, I'm going to preserve the Union. Then his equity that came with the freeing of the slaves. That's so big and strong that obviously it had to be inspiring. Teddy Roosevelt's commitment to the great outdoors, and his, you know, kind of zest for life. His kids were around this very lawn out there. We have ours out there now. I mean, there's some examples of that kind. In fact, I'm not going to be driven off the golf course. Didn't affect Ike, and it isn't going to affect me, either. I can do two things at once: mind the country's business and then every once in a while play golf. So I - I think there's a lot of examples in previous presidencies, pros and cons.” Note: We didn't really want to pick on Bush Sr., considering his moderate inclinations relative to other Big-C Conservative figures, but this was just too good to pass up! My bad.
